How it works

You tell us what you do and why you want a web site. You describe what the site might look like in the broadest terms, for example:

  • dark background, light coloured text
  • light background, dark coloured text
  • mostly photographs
  • mostly graphics (illustrations, icons, and so on)
  • a landscape layout like a widescreen TV
  • a portrait layout like a magazine
  • a colour scheme or specific graphic element like a logo
Alternatively, you might have very clear ideas of what needs to go on the site and how it can be presented, or you might have an existing site that could benefit from a bit of a wash and brush up or one that needs revamping completely. That's fine too.

Even better, you can fill out our free Website Checklist.
We tell you if we can do it. We'll discuss various approaches and agree some of the basics, such as whether the site needs to be responsive or whether it's important for you to be able to update parts of it yourself. Then we'll ask you to sign a short agreement and pay half of the fee up front (the rest is paid when the site is finished, working and on the Internet for the world to see).
Then we come up with more detailed design ideas showing for example, the front page, a contact form or another page - it doesn't matter what's on these pages, you can choose. Then you pick the design you like best. We'll ask you for any photos, text and other material you'd like us to include and get cracking. The whole thing should take between two and four weeks from start to finish, depending on whether you've got all the content ready to go - sometimes less.
Many of your visitors will look at your website on their mobile phone or tablet. With a traditional website, this means they usually have to do a lot of pinching and zooming to be able to see what's going on. A responsive website automatically re-jigs the menus, content and everything else so the site stays easy to navigate - even on a small screen. As tablets and smartphones become more popular it's more important than ever that your site is responsive and mobile-friendly.
After we've created the site and it's on the Internet for everyone to see, many clients are happy to leave it at that - or perhaps ask us to make the odd change once or twice a year. However, some clients have content they need to update regularly - news, price lists, portfolio photos, items in a shop and so on. All our sites can be built from scratch (or amended later) so you can update your chosen content from any web browser on a PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone.

What about Google?

Nobody can guarantee you a top listing on Google's search results. Can't be done. What we do is put everything in place to make it easier for people who use Google to find your site (we can also help you with stats about what people do when they visit the site, how long they spend there, which pages they like best and so on). If you'd like to know all the ins and outs, we're happy to talk about all the behind-the-scenes stuff. If not, then we won't - we'll just get on and do it anyway.
A responsive website
